Made from the traditional John Innes recipe of sterilised loam, peat and horticultural grit with added nutrients. It is rich in iron to prevent leaf chlorosis, providing the correct pH balance for acid-loving plants such as Rhododendrons, Azaleas and Camellias. This compost takes the drainage and aeration benefits of peat and adds the water retention features of John Innes (soil based compost), promoting well balanced growth. The addition of John Innes gives plants a heavy weight base making it the perfect choice for tall, top-heavy plants.
Uses:
Ideal for sowing, taking cuttings, potting on and planting ericaceous plant varieties.
Feeding:
The compost is supplied with enough nutrients to meet plant requirements for the first 3-4 weeks. Thereafter, for best results commence feeding with Westland Ericaceous Plant Food.
Sizes:
30L
Nutrient Content & pH:
The compost contains a balanced fertiliser complete with trace elements and has a pH of 4.5-5.5.
I've got a number of containerised rhododendrons that often blow over in the wind. I want to repot them, how can I make them more stable?
Choose large squat planters such as oak half barrels that have a larger base for better stability. Fill the base with pebbles or gravel and then repot your plants with John Innes Ericaceous Compost. It's made from the traditional John Innes mixture and contains loam and grit that make it heavier than peat based composts. It is specially formulated for acid loving plants and full of nutrients to encourage strong, healthy growth.
