RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2008 Brings Innovation09 May 2008
From the 20th to 24th May 2008, the South West of London will be filled with excitement and anticipation as the RHS Chelsea Flower Show comes to the capital.
Garden celebrities and designers will be battling it out to win a gold medal and showing off their talents to thousands of visitors that travel the globe to be part of one of the gardening highlights of the year.
A mass of colour will guide you around the stunning showground, introducing you to exclusive varieties as well as seeing your favourites in bloom.
Over 250 trade stands will be demonstrating the latest in innovative garden equipment and accessories and for fashion lovers, top designers will also be there to tempt you into purchasing dresses, shoes and accessories.
It’s also a great time for all garden lovers to take note of the latest trends in garden design and implement them in the garden at home.
Colours including silver, white and green will be providing a sense of coolness to the ground. In contrast some designers are bringing gardens to life with oranges, pinks and burgundy.
The environment will also be a topic of conversation with areas demonstrating how wildlife can be encouraged into the garden.
Tranquillity and restraint is also being implemented this year. This was also demonstrated in last year’s silver award winning Westland Garden.
Created by garden designer and television personality Diarmuid Gavin accompanied by Stephen Reilly, this was created for a couple who desired a touch of escapism and peace.
A suburban studio, split into two rooms, provided the perfect space to share as well as reflect an individual’s personality in each section. The two wings had a veranda with swinging chairs to relax in during the summer evening with a glass of wine.
Floral-shaped cobblestones and bubble shaped glass added a modern twist to an area that projected an overall simple and uncomplicated appeal.
Delicate plants provided scattered areas of colour between the vibrant shades of green foliage, all carefully chosen for instant recognition by the public, for example Alliums, Tulips, Hosta and ferns.
All the timber used for the studio was made from recycled wood and the plant material was also recycled back into the garden via a perfectly placed compost heap.
To add a finishing touch to this magical garden, a pond was situated next to the studio reflecting light into each room, creating a relaxed and tranquil atmosphere.
