Planting pots of ericaeous plants

Step 1
Fill the base of the container with 2-3in (5-7.5cm) of gravel. This improves the overall drainage of the container but also adds weight to the container to prevent it toppling over.

Step 2
Half fill the container with Ericaceous Compost or John Innes Ericaceous Compost; make sure you leave enough room for the root ball of your chosen plant.

Step 3
Water your plant thoroughly, ideally by soaking in a bucket of rainwater for about half an hour. Take your plant out of its pot and position the root ball into the centre of the container.

Step 4
Fill in around the plants with more Ericaceous Compost or John Innes Ericaceous Compost, firm in gently and water well. Feed your plant through the growing season with Ericaceous Plant Food. Mulch over the top of the compost in the container with Mini Chipped Bark.
