Bulb container

Bulbs in containers look stunning. For the best results plant one variety per planter, or choose two contrasting varieties for extra drama.

	Step 1 Add a layer of crocks to the base of the container to improve the drainage. This is especially important for bulbs that need air to circulate around them as they grow to avoid waterlogging and rots.
	Step 2 Part-fill the container with Bulb Planting Compost. Leave enough space to cover the bulbs with at least twice their depth in compost. Firm this down gently to ensure that the compost provides a good base for the bulbs.
	Step 3 Position the bulbs in the container with the pointed nose end uppermost. Make sure they do not touch leaving as much room between them as possible. Plant in clumps of uneven numbers where possible.
	Step 4 Cover over the bulbs with compost until it is about twice the depth of the bulb above each one. Check the packaging for specific information relating to the variety you have chosen to grow. Firm gently and place in a sheltered spot for the bulbs to grow on.
